Stone High coach John Feaster will have some bragging rights with his good friend, East Central head coach Seth Smith.

Stone High (2-0) held off East Central (1-1) for a 33-28 win in Hurley Friday night with senior receiver Nick Brown coming up with a pair of big touchdown catches.

A week after rushing for 250 yards, Terrion Avery led the Tomcats (2-0) with 135 yards on the ground.

Ashton Hickman also added six carries for 95 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown for Stone High.

“The kids played hard,” said Feaster, who is in his first year at Stone. “It was a dog fight. We played a tough club with a huge offensive line. We fought hard and were able to come through with the victory in the end.”

A 6-yard toss from Preston Stringer to Brown with 4:18 remaining proved to be the decisive score of the game, putting the Tomcats up 33-28.

Mason Hunt also had a pair of field goals of over 30 yards for Stone.

Junior defensive back Kentrell McCray added a score on defense with a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Tony Brown led East Central with three touchdown runs, including one of 53 yards.
