It’s been more than two years since former Forrest County AHS coach Larry Dolan has stepped onto Henley Field at FCAHS. The last time he did, his team won the Class 4A South State championship.
On Thursday night, however, he came back to FCAHS not as a friend but a foe. Dolan and Pearl River Central edged FCAHS 34-29 in his first game as coach of the Blue Devils.
TURNING POINT: Not often do cornerbacks have an impact on a game in which both are determined to run the football. But don’t tell junior Willie Reece that.
Reece stripped FCAHS’ Kyron Norwood on a sweep play and then proceeded to race down the sideline for a 75-yard score to make it 34-23.
What made the play even more backbreaking? FCAHS was driving down the field in the fourth quarter to potentially take the lead after trailing 28-23.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: PRC linebacker Seth Orgeron. Orgeron scooped up a fumble on the sixth play of the game and returned it for a touchdown. Then, late in the fourth quarter, Orgeron picked off quarterback Roy’Quez McNair to seal the game.
HIGHLIGHT PLAY: McNair threw a 32-yard pass to Nathan Whitley in double coverage. However, Whitley batted the ball down and away from the defenders and into the hands of Daniel Bond for a 32-yard touchdown for FCAHS.
UNSUNG HERO: McNair passed for 222 yards, going 10-for- 13 with three touchdowns and one interception.
