The Preserve Golf Club will celebrate its 10th anniversary Aug. 23-25 with special rates for area golfers.

The 18-hole, par-71 course is located 2 miles north of I-10 in Vancleave and was designed by former U.S. Open champion Jerry Pate. The course is owned by Palace Casino Resort.

Special incentives

During the anniversary special days, golfers can play unlimited golf for the day for $75 per person. They also will receive unlimited practice balls for the day, a free sleeve of balls, a free cap or visor, unlimited water on the course, carts equipped with GPS from Visage and a barbecue lunch (provided until 3 p.m.).

“The golf course really hasn’t changed over the last 10 years,’’ Preserve golf pro Chris Champagne said. “We did do a major renovation in 2014, redoing all our greens and doing bunker work.

“This is a thank you to our patrons for the past decade. In addition to local golfers, we have golfers playing here from Hattiesburg, Mobile, Slidell and New Orleans.

“Our $75 reduced anniversary rate, with all the added amenities, is our way of saying thank you to our repeat golfers, as well as an invitation for new guests to experience the Preserve Golf Club.”

Rave reviews

The course has received numerous accolades over the past decade, and top rankings from Golfweek and Golf Digest magazines, including being ranked No. 2 in Mississippi.

The course covers 6,774 yards.

“It doesn’t beat you up with its length,” Champagne said.

Champagne said the par-3 No. 16 hole is considered the toughest hole at 225 yards from the black tees. There are five sets of tees at the Preserve.

The 9th and 18th holes are long par-4s at 442 and 462 yards, respectively, from the back tees.

Challenging holes

There are challenging holes as well that are not so long in distance, such as the par-4 No. 3 hole (368 yards), the par-3 No. 6 hole (160 yards), the par-4 No. 11 hole (322 yards), the par-4 No. 12 hole (340 yards) and the par-4 No. 17 holes (308 yards). All those lengths are from the back tees.

“What separates us from other courses is that none of the holes look alike,” Champagne said. “I’m humbled by the positive feedback we get from golfers. We work hard to produce a quality product.”

The Preserve is surrounded by 1,800 acres of nature conservancy. It is a member of Audubon International and is an Audubon International Certified Signature Sanctuary.
