Southern Miss goes out of state for latest commitment

Southern Miss received a verbal commitment from a Jacksonville, Fla., defensive tackle on Saturday.

Shawn Wiley, who stands 6-foot-3, 270 pounds, announced his commitment to the Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon on Twitter.

“I want to thank God for the opportunity to play college football and Southern Mississippi for the opportunity,” Wiley said in a statement. “I have officially committed to becoming a Golden Eagle. I want to thank my coaching staff for pushing me and my new staff for receiving me.”

Wiley also holds scholarship offer from Conference USA foe Charlotte and Central Michigan.

Wiley is entering his senior season at First Coast High School in Jacksonville.
