Mississippi Gulf Coast Softball returns last weekend in February

The Mississippi Gulf Coast Softball Classic will be held Feb. 26-28 at the Gulfport Sportsplex.

Four in-state teams are competing in the event: Mississippi State, Jackson State Mississippi Valley State and Southern Miss. Baylor, Memphis, Incarnate Word, Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne, McNeese State, Nicholls State, and Southeastern Louisiana are the other schools competing in the event.

Former St. Patrick standout Sabrina Turner plays at Mississippi State. Michelle Stringer, who played at Bay High, plays for Southern Miss.

The college teams will be playing all three days. The high school portion of the tournament will be held Feb. 26 and Feb. 27.

Here's the schedule for Feb. 26: Incarnate Word-Indiana Purdue Fort-Worth, 10 a.m.; Memphis-Jackson State, 10 a.m.; Jackson State-Incarnate Word, 12:30 p.m.; Mississippi Valley State-Memphis, 12:30 p.m.; Southern Mississippi-Southeastern Louisiana, 3 p.m; Indiana Purdue Fort-Worth-Nicholls State, 3 p.m.; Southeastern Louisiana-Baylor, 5:30 p.m; Nicholls-Mississippi Valley State, 5:30 p.m.; Baylor-Southern Mississippi, 8 p.m.; McNeese-Mississippi State, 8 p.m.

Here's the opening day prep schedule on Feb. 26: Alma Bryant-Harrison Central, Lawrence County vs Gulfport, Robertsdale-West Harrison, Hancock-St. Patrick (5 p.m.); North Pike-Long Beach; OLA -Moss Point; D'Iberville-Pass Christian, Biloxi-Lloyd Star (7 p.m.).

Tickets will be sold at the gate, $10 daily or $20 for the weekend, which gets you into the prep and College games. Children 12 and under wearing a league jersey or travel ball jersey get in free.
