Belhaven nominates CB Isaiah Swopes for Conerly Trophy

Belhaven cornerback Isaiah Swopes is the school's C Spire Conerly nominee.

The freshman from Ocean Springs tied school records and set freshman records with six pass interceptions and 12 passes broken up. He set a school record for 18 passes defended. Swopes also contributed 33 tackles including 1.5 for losses and forced two fumbles.

Swopes becomes the fifth player nominated for the C Spire Conerly Trophy, which goes annually to the state's most outstanding college football player. He follows Mississippi State's Dak Prescott, Marcel Newson of Mississippi College, Javancy Jones of Jackson State and Nick Mullens of Southern Miss.

The Dec. 1 awards program, at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, will include a reception at 5:30 p.m. and a 6:30 p.m. banquet. Tickets, $100 each, are available by calling the MSHOF at 601 982-8264 or click here for order form.
