Gulf Coast finishes second at The Buccaneer
Mississippi Gulf Coast couldn't quite hold onto the lead in the Christian Brothers fall invitational golf tournament, but a second-place finish among a field of four-year schools is still a good outing for the Bulldogs.
Gulf Coast finished at 9-over 849, four behind winners Delta State. The three-round tournament was played at the North Creek Golf Course in Southaven. The other nine teams in the field were four-years schools.
Bulldogs freshman Colin Troxler shot 69 Tuesday to finish second at 3-under, nine back of medalist Alex Clark. The Delta State golfer set a tournament record for The Buccaneer at 12-under.
"That's kind of hard to beat when a good team has a player that plays that well," Gulf Coast coach Tommy Snell said. "We just need to play well together as a team."
Gulf Coast's Phillip Hickam shot 71 was tied for third at even-par to join Troxler on the All-Tournament Team. They were joined by former Bulldog golfer Conner Entriken, who finished fifth playing for William Carey.
Grant Motter's 72 left him at 3-over in sixth.
"Colin finished second again," Snell said. "You can't ask any more from a freshman. He's played really well."
