Shea Patterson gave Ole Miss fans even more reason to celebrate on Mardi Gras.
The Shreveport, La., quarterback, considered one of the top players at his position in the 2016 class, wasted little time picking the Rebels during a ceremony Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Academy.
"After months of thoughtful consideration, I'm eager to announce the school that I will be attending and getting my degree from and playing football for in 2016," Patterson said before ducking behind a podium momentarily.
He soon emerged wearing a white Ole Miss hat.

"That school is the University of Mississippi," he said.
Patterson selected Ole Miss over LSU, Southern Cal and others.
At 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, Rivals.com ranks Patterson as a five-star recruit, the No. 2 QB and the country's third overall recruit in 2016.
Patterson is expected to graduate in December and plans to enroll in school early.
PLENTY TO CHOOSE FROM: Patterson reportedly has more than 25 offers from coast to coast. As a freshman, Patterson originally committed to Arizona before decommitting from the Wildcats this summer.
BY THE NUMBERS: While leading Calvary Baptist Academy to the Division III State Championship as a junior, Patterson completed 64.8 percent of his passes for 2,428 yards and 38 touchdowns against three interceptions. He also rushed for 134 yards and three scores.
Patterson had equally impressive numbers as a sophomore, completing more than 61 percent of his passes for 2,655 yards with 34 touchdowns against four picks. He also rushed for 241 yards and three touchdowns while leading his team to a 2013 state title.
OLDER BROTHER RESIGNS FROM LSU: According to a report from the Shreveport Times, Patterson’s older brother, Sean Patterson Jr., has resigned from his position as an offensive quality control coach at LSU.
The move was reported earlier this month but was refuted at the time. Sean Patterson is expected to be hired by Ole Miss in a similar position.
“They’ve always wanted to be together, and because of the age difference, it’s a little bit different than a brother-to-brother situation,” Sean Patterson Sr. told the Shreveport Times. “Sean has been throwing him up against the wall since he was two. Hopefully they’ll end up together.”
Last spring, Sean Jr., a former quarterback at Duquesne, joined the staff at Arizona, where Shea had committed as a freshman. This summer, Sean Jr., joined LSU’s staff and Shea decommitted from the Wildcats around the same time.
EARLY START ON '16: Patterson makes the Rebels' ninth verbal pledge for the 2016 signing class, joining:

TE/WR Octavious Cooley (Laurel High)
