Former Gulfport standout delivers winning hit in D-II JUCO national championship
Pearl River Community College defeated South Mountain Community College in the 11th inning of the NJCAA Division II World Series, 4-3, thanks to a walk-off base hit by former Gulfport standout Ethan Garner.
Garner pushed a ball into left field and scored Jackson Estes from second base to deliver the Wildcats their first national title since 2022.
It was Garner’s lone hit of the day. Garner, a Tulane signee, recorded a hit in each postseason game.
Another former Admiral, All-MACCC Second Teamer Nico Williams, had two hits in the final, batting behind Garner in the order.
Pearl River C.C. becomes the first junior college to win both the baseball and softball national championships in the same season. The Lady Wildcats took down Des Moines Area Community College on May 25 to claim the program’s first championship.
Hancock grad Teegan DeWitt played a key role in softball’s title season, pitching 77.2 innings with a 1.98 ERA.
