Former Teammate Says Mike Vrabel's Mistake Could Strengthen Patriots Bond

Mike Vrabel may be dealing with plenty of outside noise right now, but one former teammate does not believe it will tear the Patriots apart. With attention on Vrabel's off-field situation involving Diana Russini, there are obvious questions about whether the distraction could affect the locker room.

Rodney Harrison sees it differently. He believes Patriots players will recognize that Vrabel is human, understand that people make mistakes, and rally around him rather than pull away. In Harrison's view, the situation could end up becoming a galvanizing moment for the team instead of a damaging one.

In a recent interview, Rodney Harrison, the teammate in question, shared his thoughts on Vrabel's off-field controversy. He said, "Those players are going through some of the same things Mike Vrabel is going through with some of the temptations, some of the things that's out there, things they struggle with… I think they'll understand, and they'll forgive Mike. I think it'll bring the locker room even closer together… They know he's a human being, he's a good person and he made a mistake. And, they're going to forgive him"

The Patriots may be dealing with a messy off-field story around Mike Vrabel, but the locker room does not sound like it is turning on him.

Drake Maye made that pretty clear when he was asked about the situation. Instead of distancing himself from Vrabel, the young quarterback backed his coach publicly, saying, "We're here for coach." That is the kind of quote that matters, especially when a team is trying to avoid letting outside drama become an internal problem.

Vrabel has reportedly already addressed the matter with the team, and the reaction from players seems to be more supportive than critical. Veterans like Hunter Henry and Robert Spillane have also stood by him, with the message being that whatever is happening outside the building is not going to take over what they are trying to do inside it.

That does not mean the attention will disappear overnight. The photos involving Vrabel and Dianna Russini have created plenty of noise, and Vrabel missing part of the draft only added to the spotlight. But so far, the Patriots appear to be closing ranks around him.

For a new-look team trying to build trust, that response is important. The story may still follow Vrabel, but inside the locker room, the early message is loyalty.
