Biloxi Shuckers sold to new managing group. Here’s what we know.
The Biloxi Shuckers have been sold to John Tracy and Shuckers Baseball, LLC, according to the Double AA minor league franchise.
The Shuckers announced the sale on Tuesday from Ken Young’s Biloxi Baseball, LLC.
“John Tracy brings extensive experience running successful businesses and a passion for the game,” said Hunter Reed, Biloxi Shuckers’ general manager. “Our organization is excited to carry on the tradition of baseball in Biloxi with John, and we thank Ken for everything he did for our community and team.”
Young purchased the team in 2014, then known as the Huntsville Stars, and moved the franchise to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
It’s been a tumultuous time, with Tim Bennett, who worked for years to bring the team to Biloxi, filing lawsuits accusing Young of discrimination and non-payment.
Biloxi also sued Young and Bennett over payments to the city for rent, advertising and ticket sales under the stadium lease. That lawsuit was settled.
The Biloxi Council will have to approve the sale of the team, and that vote is scheduled for the Feb. 14 meeting.
The new owners are committed to keeping baseball in the area, according to the release.
“The new ownership will provide capital, resources, and a dedication to the fan experience to mobilize future growth ensuring that the Biloxi Shuckers continue to be a pillar in the community,” per the team.
The Shuckers will open the 2023 on April 7 on the road against the Mississippi Braves. The homer opener is scheduled for April 11 against Pensacola.
