Support for Mike Leach pours in from SEC coaches, other big names from across the US
Mississippi State football coach Mike Leach is in critical condition at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, according to MSU.
Leach suffered a “massive heart attack,” on Sunday, according to the Clarion Ledger, and is reported to be in serious condition.
The college football world has flooded social media with support for the coach known as “The Pirate.” Leach coached at Texas Tech and Washington State before arriving in Starkville in 2020.
The 61-year-old is known for his unorthodox “coach speak,” his humor and wide-ranging knowledge of various topics that he uniquely combines with football, such as the Insurgent Warfare And Football Strategy Class he helps teach.
“My wife and I said a prayer for him last night,” Southern Miss coach Will Hall told ESPN play-by-play reporter Ben Milam. “I think a lot of Coach Leach.”
Football coaches around the country have been sharing their support. This includes former Bulldog coaches, SEC coaches and others around the nation.
Leach has won 158 games in his career with six AP top-25 finishes. His teams, famous for their Air Raid styles, have won eight bowl games.
He coached NFL stars such as Michael Crabtree and Wes Walker, and even current Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury.
