What to know about 2022 Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic fishing tournament

Big fish and even bigger payouts are at stake in the 2022 Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic.

Beginning Thursday, boats will leave the docks at Point Cadet Marina in Biloxi at 11 a.m. in search of marlin, tuna, blue wahoo and dolphinfish.

Scales open at 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday for competing teams to weigh their catch for cash prizes for the top three teams in each category. The weighing event is free and open to the public.

According to MGCBC founder Bobby Carter, payouts are expected to be over $1 million this year.

The catch-and-release portion of the tournament will be nationally broadcast on CBS from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Golden Nugget at 10:30 a.m. The schedule of events can be found on the Classic’s website.
