The Mississippi Sea Wolves have a head coach and a new wardrobe
The Mississippi Sea Wolves are one step closer to their return to the ice.
The team unveiled their uniforms and announced the man tabbed as both head coach and general manager of the expansion club on Wednesday.
Minor league hockey coaching veteran Phil Esposito will guide the newest iteration of Biloxi hockey in the Federal Prospect Hockey League.
Esposito reached the FPHL finals four times as the bench boss of the Danbury Whalers and won a championship in 2013.
The Connecticut native has a 195-124 career record as a head coach.
A former player, Esposito spent a portion of his minor league playing career suiting up for the Mobile Mysticks. According to him, the Gulf Coast can be a significant draw in the recruitment of players to the Sea Wolves.
“Playing down south is probably one of the best things in the world to ever experience in your hockey career,” Esposito said at his introductory press conference. “I did it when I was in Mobile and there’s nothing better than walking to practice in shorts and sandals in December and January... I think that’s going to be a selling point for us.”
The Sea Wolves revealed three different sweaters for their inaugural season. The set includes a blue home jersey, white road jersey and a special throwback to the 1990’s iteration of the Sea Wolves with a red/yellow/blue alternate uniform.
