Hancock basketball star is first 2022 athlete of the week

Hancock’s Maddy Ladner is the Sun Herald Athlete of the Week after earning 70% of the votes in our poll.

Ladner recorded a 21-point, 12-rebound double-double in an upset win over Harrison Central on Jan. 4. It was the Red Rebels’ first loss of the season.

Ladner received over 84,000 of the more than 120,000 votes cast. Gulfport soccer’s Addie Eddins received 28% of the vote with 33,334 votes to earn second place.

The Hawks are 14-6 and 1-2 in region play.
