Former Mississippi State baseball and Major League standout Rafael Palmeiro is considering making a comeback in pro baseball.
Palmeiro told The Athletic Wednesday that he could still play in the Major Leagues, even at age 53.
During his 20-year career, Palmeiro had 3,020 hits and 569 home runs playing for the Baltimore Orioles, Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers. He was suspended after testing positive for anabolic steroids in 2005, leading to his retirement.
“Maybe 12 years later, if I can come back and prove I don’t need anything as an older player with an older body, then people might think, OK, maybe he didn’t do anything intentionally,” Palmeiro told The Athletic.
