Picayune, Hattiesburg split Region 7-5A basketball titles

Stephane Ayangma scored 26 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Picayune routed Hattiesburg 49-33 to win the Boys’ Region 7-5A championship on Friday at Pearl River Central.

Delrae Smith added 10 points as the Maroon Tide earned a first-round bye in the 5A state playoffs.

In the girls’ game, Hattiesburg overcame a eight-point fourth quarter deficit to stun Picayune 45-41. Miracle Banks and Alanna Smith each scored 12 points, Camille Culpepper grabbed 16 rebounds for Picayune.
