NFL line judge Sarah Thomas, a Pascagoula native, was injured during the Green Bay Packers-Minnesota Vikings contest on Saturday.

Thomas took a helmet to the midsection from Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph as he was being tackled near the sideline by Packers safety Morgan Burnett. Thomas landed hard and exited the game, but later returned in the Packers’ 38-25 victory.

It’s unknown how severe Thomas’ injury is.

Thomas was hired as the NFL’s first full-time female official last April.

Pascagoula pays tribute to Sarah Thomas by renaming gymnasium after her.

Sarah Thomas, a Pascagoula native who became the first female full-time NFL official, spoke to the Saints media about working at the NFL level three years ago, when she was just trying to break into the league.
