Sand and bags currently are available for residents who need to protect their property from rising water, said Rupert Lacy, emergency manager for Harrison County.
Both are free, but residents will have to fill the bags themselves, Lacy said. The supplies are at the Lorraine Road Work Center in Gulfport.
South Mississippi has been deluged with rain over the past two days, and some areas have received more than 10 inches. The system that is producing the rain likely won't begin to move out until Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
