Several candidates made Friday’s deadline to qualify for Congressional races and are set to challenge first-term incumbent U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo.
Palazzo is seeking re-election and will face Republicans Ron Vincent and Cindy Burleson in the GOP primary. Three Democrats, Michael Herrington, Joshua LaRose and Jason Vitosky, have all signed up to run, but it appears LaRose’s candidacy may not be certified. Diamonhead’s Robert W. Claunch will be a Reform Party candidate. Former U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor, a longserving Democrat who lost to Palazzo in 2010 but many thought might run again in 2012, told the Sun Herald Friday he wouldn’t seek his old seat this year.
The primary is March 13 and the general election is Nov. 6.
