Man shot trying to round up injured pig

VANCLEAVE - A Vancleave man was shot and injured Sunday in what Sheriff Mike Byrd called an accidental shooting near a hog pen.

Two men, identified as Reginald Williams and Jason Letort, had just shot a pig with a .22-caliber rifle Sunday morning when they went to round up the pig out of the pen and it took off running despite the wound.

The pig got out of the pen and ran into a wooded area, and Williams ran after it. The pig ended up circling around and charging Letort, who fired a single shot, hitting Williams instead. Williams was taken to an area hospital for treatment, Byrd said, and was expected to recover.

The shooting on Mongers Road in Vancleave has been ruled accidental.
