Ocean Springs firefighters bring back a piece of the World Trade Center

OCEAN SPRINGS — City firefighters returned to the city today with a 6-foot steel beam from the World Trade Center, awarded to the Ocean Springs Fire Department after a two-year application process, city officials just announced.

Fire Chief Jeff Ponson, Deputy Chief Nate Wilson, and Lt. David Wicker went to New York earlier this week and brought it back.

“It is an honor and privilege to receive a piece of American history that symbolizes heroism and bravery,” Chief Ponson said. “We honor our fellow firefighters who gave the ultimate sacrifice to save lives on 9/11/01.”
