Man gets 20 years in boating fatality

BILOXI — Circuit Judge John Gargiulo sentenced Donald C. Bernius to 20 years in prison today on a guilty plea to boating under the influence of alcohol in a crash that killed one man and seriously injured the man’s brother.

Bernius had a blood-alcohol content of 0.25, 2-1/2 times the legal limit for operating a boat, prosecutors in Harrison County Circuit Court said.

Christopher Wayne Webb died in the crash on Aug. 22, 2009, and his brother, Shane Webb, suffered several broken bones and some permanent brain damage. They were boating on the Tchoutacabouffa River.
