Memorial Hospital faces layoffs, restructuring due to budget shortfall

Memorial Hospital at Gulfport is talking to employees today to explain layoffs and other budget-cutting measures taken to offset an $11 million revenue shortfall, hospital officials said.

Hospital president and chief executive officer Gary Marchand spoke to the Sun Herald today and confirmed that 47 employees were given notice on Friday. Of those 47, 35 were full-time employees, six were part-time employees who work more than 20 hours and six were either as-needed employees or part-time employees who worked less than 20 hours a week.

Ten of the employees were nurses, Marchand said.

"In-patient services are unaffected as are out-patient services," he said.
