Sound Off for Aug. 23: Thanks for help for flood victims

Good tax

I’m all for the increase in cigarette tax. Not only will it create more of a barrier to early smokers because of the financial reasons, but this will in turn help decrease the number of times I see people throwing out cigarette butts out of their cars.

Big thanks!

So many good people of Mississippi are contributing to our brothers and sisters experiencing the devastating flood in the Baton Rouge area. A heartfelt thanks goes out to the good folks at Gollott & Sons Transfer & Storage, Rouses and the D’Iberville Fire Department for heading local efforts in gathering and transporting much needed supplies.

They’re here

Hummingbirds are here. They’re sucking my feeders dry.

TV ideas

Can Ocean 7 buy the “Gilligan’s Island” TV series, along with all of the “Three Stooges” episodes? I like the old “Wild Wild West” TV series, too. Just saying. But I also want to produce a TV series locally here on the Gulf Coast. Who do I talk to?

Trump change

It’s time for another dose of “hope and change” — this time with Trump!

We the people

Edward Grey, a British statesman, once said: “The United States is like a gigantic boiler. Once the fire is lighted under it, there is no limit to the power it can generate.” We the people are America! Our country has survived every president and we will survive the next. Why? Because we the people are America.

Term limits

With all the furor over broken government, it might be time to consider something that the Founding Fathers had in mind when they established it. They never intended that the governing body would be a permanent job. They felt it would be temporary and when done the farmer would go back to his fields. What needs to be done today to get to that point is to establish term limits of say two terms on all congressional positions. That way the participants would do the job rather than spending inordinate amounts of time and money to simply get reelected. The money especially is a driving force which places politicians in beholden positions to big money supporters. Take that away, and you would get more rational output from Congress. It is good enough for our president, it should be good enough for the next level down and might make America great again.
