Here’s how to save

To Saturday’s “Give us a break”: Unless you are planning on sending your child to school naked, you can save a lot more tax money on clothing as opposed to school supplies. Also, you can use this break to buy birthday and Christmas presents in advance to save even more.

Gun control

On Friday, President Obama issued a sweeping gun control measure by fiat. The U.S. State Department has labeled commercial gunsmiths as “manufacturers” for performing relatively simple work such as threading a barrel or fabricating a small custom part for an older firearm. As such they are required to register at significant expense or risk onerous criminal penalties, that is gun “control,” not control over violence, mass shootings or terrorism.

Get used to it

To the person sounding off and incensed over the U.N. representative from Kenya advising Americans how to demonstrate, you had better get used to the United Nations advising the USA since we are members of the UN and are no longer the sovereign nation we once were. We are under the rules of the United Nations, like it or not !

Thank you

On July 21, a friend of mine was shopping in the Waveland Walmart. In front of her at the checkout counter was a young man holding a beautiful bouquet. Teasingly, she asked if they were for her and they shared a chuckle. Once he completed his transaction, though, he turned and handed her the 12 yellow roses, saying they were for her. Despite her protests, he insisted she take them. She very much wanted to give this young man a heartfelt thank you and let him know that he made a 90-year-old woman’s week!

It won’t be sad

To “So sad”: Let’s hope we see that same look on the faces of the 1 percent when they have to pay their fair share of taxes. Won’t be sad!

What about safety?

I’m wondering why the police don’t care about all the cars parked on the pedestrian sidewalk at the lighthouse service drive? It’s terrible being a pedestrian in Biloxi!

I remember

My wife and I were staying at the Best Western on Bourbon Street in the early ‘90s when we were awakened by a huge crowd in the street at 3 a.m. Guns N’ Roses had dropped in to have an impromptu jam session at the bar across the street. Hundreds were entertained.
