Gun smarts?

When are we going to get smart enough to see that guns should have more restrictions on who should own them? And some guns have no place in a civilized society.

Remember this

Let’s hope the public remembers Steven Palazzo’s post liking carpet bomb an American city. He has not shown much leadership since elected.

Stop it!

To see the wife and kids of the Baton Rouge police in the paper just breaks your heart. These killings better stop.

Get over it

I have always had the highest regard for George W. Bush and his father. Now they are acting like a bunch of babies because baby brother got beat in the primaries.

Raw coverage

If you really want to know what is going on at the conventions, tune to C-Span. No biased “talking heads” there. You will see and hear all the speakers, not just “sound bites.”

Not buying it

Right on cue, the Republicans have decided that the best way to convince us to elect them this fall is to step up the vilification of their opponents. They see no need to persuade us with substance.

Eyes on the road

Recently, my husband was going to work to the shipyard early in the morning. He was almost hit head-on by a distracted driver on Beachview Drive in Gulf Park Estates, Ocean Springs. Please pay attention and keep your eyes only on the road ahead of you. Texting and driving can wait.

Support Hargrove

Whether you agree with what is going on at this time with Gary Hargrove, who is our coroner, you must know the time that he puts in to do this job. Gary has to be one of the hardiest county employees whose hours are 24 hours a day and seven days a week. I for one support him knowing what all he did and just think what he went through after Katrina. There are many other individuals who we could get to do this job. Gary gives 115 percent to this job.

The numbers

The death of a police officer in the line of duty is always tragic, and they deserve our support during these difficult times. But the statistics simply do not support the narrative of a war on cops. Statistics available online from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial reveals that approximately 985 officers have been killed thus far during Barack Obama’s presidency. That’s not even close to previous two-term presidents. Approximately 1,375 were killed under George W. Bush, 1,473 under Bill Clinton and 1,509 under Ronald Reagan.
