Sound Off for July 18
Stay respectful
Much credit goes to Curley Clark, president of Jackson County NAACP, for his remarks to our young people in advising them to respectfully “comply” with the police or other forms of authority. Pray they listen and stay safe. We don’t need or want anymore shootings.
So proud
Once again, I’m so proud of the Gulf Coast. Black leaders on the Coast say the right things, and black and white people randomly stop a young deputy to pray with him, which is setting an example for the rest of the country.
How wonderful
The story of the woman at the gas station who prayed with Deputy Josh Harmon was wonderful! We should all be like that, praying openly and unashamedly, and receiving prayer gratefully. God hears the prayers of his people, of any age or color.
Morality?
Trump is more moral? Many educated people actually believe Trump is more moral than Clinton. Wow!
Failed socialism
Thousands of Venezuelans stormed across the border to Colombia in search of food and medicine this week. Venezuela once was a rising democratic, capitalist country, finally reaching its potential after suffering decades of various rebel juntas, military takeovers and despotic dictators. Then along comes the inevitable populist promising the socialist nirvana. Instead, the country is the latest example of the epic fail of socialism and its twin, corruption. Where are you, Sean Penn?
Not a peep
Is there really any way for civilized countries to relate to, negotiate with or partner with Islamic countries that tacitly or openly support honor killing in the name of their religion? It's barbaric and Neanderthal. Furthermore, why doesn't the slavery and subjugation of women in the name of Islam provoke the feminists in America? Not a peep out of them.
How it works
Governing means helping the people that elected you to govern. Not making certain ones richer, not only listening to your friends, not hiding from any contact with the underprivileged in your area and not using the election process to make sure you stay in power. It means making sure of an education system that is funded to help educate citizens, helping with health care that only few can afford, helping to create jobs, making sure of an infrastructure that works for all and having the consideration to listen to those in need. Seems our state leaders don't understand these concepts.
