Sound Off for July 14: We need a blue-plate diner on Coast

Tables turned

Yes, really. Let’s turn it around. It’s hard to believe the Democrats had a candidate who knew nothing about the Constitution, international politics or any of the things we expected our president to know. “We” elected someone who had to be trained on the job. For someone who was supposed to be a professor of constitutional law, he still hasn’t gotten the concept of balance of powers between the three branches of our government.

Phone problems

We have a majority of “dumb drivers” looking at “smart” phones while forcing other drivers to wait behind them while they do their phone business.

Blue plate, please

Tourists often ask for a hometown diner where local cuisine is offered, such as red beans and rice or pork chops and sweet potatoes. No such place in downtown Biloxi. Some young entrepreneur might consider bringing back one of these reverently remembered places in our deserted downtown that offered the infamous blue plate special.

Who’s in danger

Consider this: Black Lives Matter was never meant to imply that only black lives matter — that was the media. All Lives Matter, but it’s black lives that are in danger.

Respect each other

The whole problem in law enforcement is simply respect for authority. If people who have contact with officers would do as they are requested to, and be respectful, things would be just fine. When you respond with attitude and disrespect, it’s not going to end well for you. Officers have a tough job, and their lives are on the line every day. They are there to protect all of us, regardless of skin color because all lives do matter. We as citizens must understand and respect the authority they are empowered with. Should they mistreat you, there are proper channels to follow to rectify that as well. Respect one another, people.

Do not do it

I would say do not put your cellphone number on the no-call list. We put our house phone number on the list and got more nuisance calls than before. I believe the callers buy the list to use. I have kept the log for the Public Service Commission and they do not do anything. The answer was, “They keep changing their numbers they are calling from.” Surely the technology is there that we could just press a number to block a call from a certain number as it happens. If not, that’s the technology that needs to be developed.
