Sound Off: Welcome home, Chiquita

Chiquita trucks are evacuated out of the port in Gulfport as Hurricane Gustav approaches in 2008. After leaving the port for New Orleans in 2014, they announced they will return by August.

She’s cautious

I know Hillary has made mistakes, and this email issue is yet another, but she is cautious when she speaks. She does not bully. She will carefully handle our national and international relations. If for no other reason, I will vote for her. Trump’s loose tongue and erratic temperament truly scare me.

Bankrupt view

Republicans grossly waste millions of taxpayers’ dollars trying to discredit one candidate while supporting another candidate who has a long history of using bankruptcy as his main business strategy. Wow!

Welcome home

It’s great to see Chiquita coming back home. Now more than ever, the city of Gulfport needs to work with MDOT and get a direct route into the port from the north. Not only will this protect our local infrastructure from the heavy equipment, it will make it much easier to enter and exit the port. While I am not a fan of how some of the BP money has been spent thus far — a baseball stadium and upcoming aquarium — I do feel this project qualifies for another trip to the well.

It’s a big deal

I never believed Hillary would be charged with even a misdemeanor. But she could have been since the statutes she violated require only gross negligence, not specific intent. Nevertheless, anyone else would have lost their security clearance immediately never to regain it. If she becomes president, would she have a secretary of state as negligent and cavalier as herself? Why not? Will she be more careful with secrets then? Why? The Democrats say this is no big deal. So, why do other people in government have to be more careful than she with classified material?

Dump truck blues

OK, enough with the earth-shaking dump trucks going back and forth. Our roads and ditches are already not taken care of. I have to hear the house already vibrate with loud bass from so-called music. Now I have to feel and hear dump trucks all day. How much dirt do these places really need? Is the contractor giving them a spoonful at a time?

BP for what?

Much thought needs to be given by the state Legislature on how to spend the BP oil money. So far the governor has given money to Biloxi for a stadium and to Gulfport for an aquarium. I am still trying to figure out what these two projects have to do with the BP oil spill. If this is how we are going to spend the monies now and in the future, then perhaps it should be shared equally with the entire state. Its kind of like the casino revenue that was supposed to be for education; money has a way of getting lost in the general fund.

System is corrupt

Everybody knew Hillary would not be charged. Our whole system is corrupt. If it had been anyone else, they’d be in jail. Justice for all; what a joke.
