Braves check

I like to check the sports calendar every morning to find out what time the Braves lose.

Home run!

You hit a home run with your revamped sports section — especially the MLB standings and schedules. Way to go!

History

Watched an interesting show on MPB about Greece. About 600 BC, the people of Greece were fed up with the “ruling” class and took control of their government, and that was the start of democracy.

Carry through

Deer Island is not easily accessible to the public. There is no means to get to the pier unless you have your own boat. Tourists rarely haul their own boat to the Coast, though some do. I have been there in my boat with family three times. We like to walk the south side of the island. It is difficult to get to the pier as there is no marked channel access and the water depth is 2-3 feet shallow in places. The pier is well-built. The walking trails are not well-marked, though. Secretary Hosemann and DMR Executive Director Jamie Miller built the pier, so they should provide an easy means for the public to get to the island and be able to enjoy it. Maybe use some of the BP money. The pier is a good idea, but this project has not been carried to completion.

Please!

I am 70 years old and have been voting all my life. I have despaired of the choices available at several presidential elections over the years, but this year is just incredible. Never before have I seen the choices we have this year. Hillary is not ideal and Donald Trump is not prepared. It just seems impossible that he ever could become the Republican candidate for president of the United States of America. Surely, please God, he will never become the president.

Please explain

Every time there is talk about common sense gun laws, we hear a lot of NRA rhetoric, but we also hear how these laws would be punishing law-abiding gun owners. I cannot understand that statement. If you are a law-abiding gun owner, then you already have guns and have gone through background checks to get them. Would someone please give me a fact-based explanation of why people say this? How would stricter background checks, closing gun show and internet sales loopholes, preventing people on a no-fly or terrorist watch list from purchasing guns and banning the sales of assault-style weapons to civilians be punishing law-abiding citizens?
