I watched a news clip this week that featured restaurant owners taking a number of young people on a fishing trip in a small boat. The boat was going quite fast, and none of the occupants were wearing life jackets, even when the boat stopped and fishing began while the children leaned over the side. It was reported this was a good trip for all concerned, but it could have easily resulted in a tragedy. To quote the sergeant on Hill Street Blues: "Let's be careful out there."
Where's the humanity?
On Saturday, the Westboro Baptist Church group was on the news protesting at a funeral for one of the Orlando shooting victims. I believe in God, but I don't believe God discriminates. None of us on this Earth have any right to judge or question another's morals; that's God's job. I don't agree with the LBGT community, but it's OK to disagree, and I don't hate anyone. With that being said, I don't want to belong to any congregation or organization that would protest at someone's funeral.
Leave snakes at home
I don't think it's funny or cool that people with large snakes walk up behind unsuspecting people like me and my family. These are dangerous reptiles, and I was enjoying the concert in Long Beach until you showed of with that snake. You just enjoy the attention and frightening people while shocking onlookers. You didn't care what you did to me and my family or how we feel about large dangerous snakes.
It's just policy
I totally agree that carding an 83-year-old is ridiculous. But it's not always up to the employee. My employer tells me to card everyone -- no matter how old they appear -- who purchases alcohol. It's not a matter of using common sense; it's a matter of wanting to keep my job.
Share your time
I don't know how many notice that death has no age? Almost every day, I look in the obituaries, and another person who has meant so much to family and friends has passed, leaving memories, heartbreak and sadness behind for loved ones. If it's your time to go, are you ready? Will you meet them? Have you told those in your life what they mean to you? Share your time; it goes quickly. Happy Father's Day and happy every day. I'd love for my parents to be here.
There's a problem
Life rings at every pier would be a great idea. The only problem is that they would be stolen almost immediately.
