Rep. Herb Fierson accuses school superintendents of "biting the hand that feeds them." Who feeds him? Just curious.
Good to have
I fully agree that people have become almost phobic about carrying guns. However, I will also say, if you are ever in a situation where you need a gun but do not have one, you'll probably never need one again.

Teach taps in schools
Saw a young lady playing taps on a bugle on ABC News Monday night. Very moving. She regretted she could not play it for her World War II veteran grandfather when he passed away. Taps played on tape is not the same. I know. Wouldn't it be nice if the playing of taps was offered to all music students in our High Schools? I can think of a lot of reasons why young people experiencing the playing of taps for our veterans would be a good thing.
Bigger than big
Donald trump says he is going to make the military stronger. We already spend more than the next 10 countries combined on our defense budget. How big can we get? An interesting thought on this is that of 21 aircraft carriers in the world we have 10 of them. No one else has more than one each.
Be good citizens
Our citizens are the cause of the trash on the highways and until they become better citizens, it's a hopeless battle. We picked up along the highway at our subdivision one weekend and the next weekend it was all trashed again. Some people won't cross the street to pick up trash in front of their house because it's on an empty lot side of the street.
Thank you for your Opinion piece in Sunday's paper about getting guns under control. So many reactionary politicians, media types, NRA spokespersons have created so much hysteria over "the government taking your guns" that I am not sure how we start to overcome this challenge. I am so glad that law enforcement is speaking out on the need for more control. We should support them in this effort. Instead of violence being our last resort to settle disputes, it has become our first reaction. Every politician who votes to reduce gun control should have to ride with a law enforcement officer for a few days first and attend a few funerals of gun violence victims.
