You're paying taxes

To say anyone goes without paying taxes is ignorant. When you buy gas, you pay tax. When you buy anything in this state, even that shameful, shameful tax on food, you pay tax.

Recycle

I worked at Auto Zone, and we used to take old batteries that customers no longer wanted.

An ugly election

The candidates themselves are partly responsible for the mean attitude of their followers. When you call your campaign a revolution, you get revolutionary ugliness in followers. When you debase many Americans and encourage fist fights, you get mean followers. It's sad this presidential election seems anything but presidential.

Secrets

Does being rich like Trump mean denying information to the American public that all other candidates are open about? Doesn't he understand you need to be more open -- yes, taxes included -- when running for president?

Don't worry

Trump says Clinton will take away your guns and do away with the second amendment. Didn't conservatives say Obama was going to do those things eight years ago? Never-ending lies keep the Republican Party and the NRA in business.

Overtime expanded

It was reported this week that overtime pay eligibility was expanded by raising the required threshold from $23,660 a year to $47,476. The old threshold looks like it almost got down to minimum wage workers, who earn $15,080 a year versus $23,660. It's pretty close. This might be a step to bringing back the middle class, which is sorely needed.

Wonderful event

My friend and I attended the Special Olympic Games on Biloxi Beach May 21. It was our first time to attend this event, and the contestants' enthusiasm was contagious. We were very impressed with the kindness and support of the service members from Keesler who were volunteering their time and efforts to this wonderful event. The awards ceremony was very professional, and the contestants' smiles were priceless! God Bless America!

Be positive

Mississippi has some of the lowest property taxes in the country, the least abortions of all states and more black elected officials than any other state, despite our reputation. Mississippians also give a higher percentage of their income to charity than other states. Since everyone wants to point out all of our negatives, I thought offer a few of our positives.
