Sound Off for May 9

Save the dolphin

So, it's taking weeks to rescue the stranded dolphin in Ocean Springs? How long has the poor thing been there and why hasn't somebody tried to rescue it yet ? That poor dolphin will be dead by the time these agencies have settled their jurisdictional battle.

No disrespect

For some reason people today use disrespect as an excuse for extreme retaliation or revenge. They think if it is called disrespect, then action is justified. Saying or doing something you don't like is not disrespect, it's called freedom.

Equal service

I think it's time for mandatory military service. Two to four years in the military would benefit all 18 year olds. They would learn discipline, respect and maybe some common sense.

Spread the song

"Choose Love" is a beautiful song by Mississippi's own Aubrey Hayes. Thanks to the Sun Herald for giving us a link to it. I would love to here it on local stations.

Guess who

Listening to the reality show style of presidential campaigning on TV brought these song lyrics to mind. Can you guess the artist?

"I may be vile and pernicious

But you can't look away

I make you think I'm delicious

With the stuff that I say

I'm the best you can get

Have you guessed me yet?"

Ludicrous

I have read over the years many Sound Offs which lack any basis in fact. But I believe one in Sunday's edition reaches heights of ludicrousness rarely seen in print. The assertion that "the current Republican Congress has done nothing to stop Obama's liberal agenda" is so far-fetched as to be unworthy even of thought must less print. Everything the Republicans have done since his inauguration has been to stop our president's agenda!

Thank you

My wife fell and broke her hip. We are elderly so it was a major injury. After surgery, five days in the hospital and 20 days in rehab she got to come home. We went to a barber shop in Long Beach to get both of us a haircut. A gentleman helped me get her into the shop as she is in a wheelchair. He got his hair cut and as he was leaving we thanked him for his help. About 5 minutes later he returned and gave my wife's hair stylist some money and told to do whatever my wife wanted done to her hair. He then wished my wife a happy Mother's Day and hastily departed. I may never know his name but he renewed my faith in humanity. We need more people like him in this world.
