Sound Off for March 12
What has always amazed me about tobacco use is why this, the most dangerous and most addictive drug, is a legal product.
Here's an idea
Many Republicans worry about Social Security costs. Here's a solution. The government put back every dime that it raided from the Social Security trust fund over the decades, with interest.
Solution sought
The problem I have with liberals' logic is their response to healing something that is unfair. Their answer to unfairness is send more tax money to Washington. The politicians there spend that money in ways that will increase, if not assure, their chance of getting re-elected. This form of representative government definitely does not represent those from whom the tax money is taken.
Build a wall here
I have been wanting to write in and ask this question for a long time. With all the money that the county has to spend maintaining the beach, and especially having to clean the sand off the highway during conditions like we have now, why hasn't anyone thought of building a 2-3 foot wall on top of the sea wall to retain the sand? This is done a lot on the East Coast with great success.
Don't do it
So, Waveland wants to annex more territory to reach a thriving business (Silver Slipper) when this area is better off without them. Waveland has not been able to repair its streets or attract new business to their city. The people of Clermont Harbor and Silver Slipper are doing quite well without Waveland. What does Waveland have to offer that we do not already have? Nothing. We already have fire, police and good community leaders and the county maintains our roads.
Teachers need a say
I have no doubt that you will be inundated with responses to Sunday's question, "Why do good teachers leave?" Let me offer some reasons. When they have children who curse them, spit in their face and fight all the time, and their administration turns a blind eye, they do not want to stay. When they are given more and more and more to do with less and less to do it with, they do not want to stay. When they feel unappreciated and taken for granted, they do not want to stay. When they have a district that is so focused on test scores that they forget to teach the whole child, they do not want to stay. It's time teachers have a say in their own classrooms rather than having a "coach" stand over them all day telling them what to say, when to stand and when to sit, and how long it should take children to master a skill.
