Sound Off for March 7
If you want to know why people in this country are angry, the article on the front page of the Sun Herald on Sunday is the reason. No, it is not the article on shootings, but the article on MDA and Topship. For $36 million, over 1,000 jobs will be created. That equates to about $36,000 per job. That does not count the lost tax revenue because of a 20-year tax abatement on state income taxes and a 10-year tax abatement on county and city property taxes. A sweet deal for a company whose parent company has a less than stellar track record when receiving tax incentives. Looks like MDA "dropped the ball" on this request. NO small business gets such treatment.
Here we are now
Thank you, Sun Herald for the politics extravaganza. This is the year to have it. The thrills, the chills, the spills ... it's all breathtaking! If we all don't turn out this year, we might as well shoot our democracy like a lame horse!
Restore means restore
Why isn't BP money being used to restore the Gulf Coast fishing, shrimping, crabbing and oyster industry? Rebuilding the docks, piers and boats, and creating seafood industry-related jobs? Helping the charter boat industry? Instead, politicians are pushing to use BP money to build a military gate entrance nowhere near the Gulf. The public needs more information on the eligible use of BP money.
Correction
At the Battle of Iwo Jima there were 6,800 Americans killed not 68,000 as stated in a Sunday article. The Battle of Okinawa had the largest amount of allies killed in the Pacific Campaign 14,000 dead and 65,000 casualties. Guadalcanal had 7,000 dead, Saipan 3,000 killed and Tarawa 1,000 Americans killed. These were some of the major battles. The Japanese lost about 2,000,000 civilians and combatants in WWII, untold injured.
People not party
I know I get confused at times, but I'm pretty sure the constitution reads WE THE PEOPLE and not we the Republican Party. The people are voting and the ball is in their court.
Much needed
Re: The Biloxi Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) stand-down, I have been enrolled in six different VAMC's and they all provided urgent care clinics Monday through Friday, not just every couple of months! This is a much-needed service as many injuries or medical needs don't meet the criteria to be seen in the emergency room.
Dangerous gamble
I think a lot of Trump supporters just want to see what will happen if he is nominated and if he is elected. But can we gamble our country's future "just to see what will happen"? He is like a cheerleader that thinks he can play quarterback. Think about it.
