Sound Off for March 1

Bad news

Reading the article in Sunday's paper about our elected officials using campaign funds for themselves made me sick to my stomach. Why do we let this happen? Why doesn't anyone care to do a thing about it?

Not that important

To the young, long-haired blonde girl driving on U.S. 90 on Sunday in the passing lane. Was that text so important that you could lose your life?

Bernie's world

I've been in the construction industry all my adult life. Probably 95 percent of the people I've worked with did not go to college, including myself. In a Bernie Sanders America, everyone would go to college, while someone else pays for it. Who's going to build things?

Bad behavior

This weekend, Republican candidates hurled an insult-athon at each other to the jubilant cheers of enthusiastic crowds of their voters. Mainly about each other's looks. These folks aren't mature enough to lead a thoughtful nation.

Enforce speed limits

Can someone tell me which lane of an interstate highway a person wanting to drive the posted speed limit should use? It is posted on most highways that slower drivers use the right-hand lane. In most cases if you obey that law, then you cannot drive the posted speed limit. If you drive in the so-called fast lane and maintain the posted speed limit then someone tries running over you. Theoretically, if all the vehicles obey the speed limit there should be no need to pass. Solution to the problem: the highway patrol should ticket all those exceeding the posted speed limit. If you have driven interstate highways in Florida the highway patrol does an excellent job on keeping the speed controlled.

Think about it, Mississippi

Remember this, Mississippi, when a politician says he's going to turn programs over to the states. This state for every $1.30 we send the government in taxes we get back $3.20. We haven't fully funded education in the last 20 years but twice, years ago. A large portion of our citizens are on welfare or disability. We have the highest in poverty. The state of Mississippi cannot survive without the government. We are a welfare state. And our Republican leaders are not transparent where our money actually goes. And they don't seem to be forthcoming anytime soon.
