Sound Off for Feb. 29

Power to the people

The little guys (and gals) won a victory thanks to Sen. Tommy Gollott, Rep. Casey Eure, the Mississippi Coastal Conservation Committee and the Sun Herald. The defeat of the bill allowing Omega Protein to keep redfish died in committee. This is a great example of what can be done when bills are very public in the press and political leaders are representing the voting public.

Soap opera

People wonder why there is so much voter apathy in this country. Well after months of name-calling, back-stabbing and downright lying 24 hours a day on the news, from all of the candidates, most people are just tired of hearing about an election. Elections have become just an aftermath of the continuous soap opera of American politics. Stay tuned for the next episode, more of the same rhetoric.

No gas tax

I am in agreement with "Hands Off" about the state wanting to raise gas taxes. Keep your hands out of my pockets legislators, or I will be rethinking how I vote in the next election. It's as simple as that. We are finally getting relief from high prices and you think its a good idea to cut into that. Enter my pockets at your own political risk.

Deserving pay

Since our legislators insist on making the rules in education, they should be paid accordingly. That is, you should be paid as public school employees. What? You don't have the three years in the classroom to qualify as an administrator? Well, get paid as a teacher. Oh? No teacher certification? Well, maybe you should just stick to making rules about something you know about.

Change

In response to "Again," people change. They see how certain things affect/affected a race of people. Mississippi is the only state that can't see the forest for the trees. Everyone knows what this flag represents, and, heritage isn't at the head of the line. Otherwise other states would still be flying it.

Left-lane law

Finally someone (Alabama) is going to have a law that punishes the drivers who use the left lane incorrectly. If you are driving in the left lane for more than one and one half miles without passing, then you're going to get a ticket. But wait, my wife asks, "How do they know that person has been in the left lane that long?" A very good question.

Let Carson speak

What a shame the last GOP debate didn't give Dr. Ben Carson the floor long enough to explain his plans for this country. He tried to outline an Obamacare fix, economic fix, he even asked for somebody to attack him so he could get a chance to talk. Seems he would make a great president. Too bad he's not a part of the clique.
