Sound Off for Feb. 22

Everyone is so hyped about the presidential election but our votes do not count. The next president will be elected by 538 people. We are the only country to use the Electoral College to elect a president. We need to force Congress to change the election process so that presidents are elected by popular vote and make every vote count.

No cigars

Cigars are disgusting and should not be allowed at indoor, public establishments. Keep them at private cigar shops where patrons share an appreciation of the stench.

Better off

I do not know if Donald Trump is the right man to be president, but he is saying the things that I like to hear. I believe if he is elected, and he practices what he has been preaching, the country will be a lot better off.

Hate trifecta

Trump's sweep of South Carolina shows the three legs of the right's base: hate Obama and the government, hate Muslims and immigrants, and hate liberals. Hate, hate and more hate. They own it.

Partly right

Political parenting only had it partly right. Conservatives are like parents who tell their children they can't have what they need, while they buy their friends expensive gifts and take them out on their shiny new boat for a fancy dinner.

Tolerance

After reading that state Legislature's recent LGBT bill, I wonder why religious conservatives -- who are so intolerant of others -- expect you to be tolerant of them?

No to socialism

I am not in the top 1 percent in our country, but like the majority of Americans, I am in the top 1 percent of the world's population. Continue to move our country to socialism, and this will no longer be the case.
