Sound Off for Feb. 20

And the nominee is ...

I think the president should present his nominee for the Supreme Court and Congress should have confirmation hearings. There is nothing that says Congress has to approve the president's choice. I don't see what the problem is.

Don't judge

The Pope was way out of line. I'm sure there are more important fires for him to fight. Judge not, lest ye be judged!

In love with John Wayne

You could transpose the name John Wayne over all the coverage and appeal of Donald Trump's message, and it would remain consistent. Conservative voters judge the universe through the prism of the movie character John Wayne. The Donald gives them what they love: John Wayne.

Have fun, but be careful

Trampoline Park going into D'Iberville will be a great thing, until children start getting hurt, and adults, too. Research says trampolines are dangerous, a top activity to be careful while using. Many users end up in emergency rooms. Have good insurance. Parents, watch your child.

Hate-filled politics

We've all known people who just need someone to hate, to be scapegoats for everything they don't like about the world. In the past they would direct their wrath at other religions, races or ethnic groups, but since that isn't tolerated anymore, they direct it at other political parties. Politics has become the last refuge for haters.

Deserving of a vote

Good article on Thursday about Senate Bill 2174, which would increase the penalties for animal abuse by modifying an existing law. This bill will come before the Agricultural Committee to determine if it will go to the full Senate for a vote. You can encourage the senators on this committee to bring it up to a vote. Under the present law, no matter what kind of animal abuse occurs, it will only be considered a felony on the second offense. Also, no matter how many animals are abused (either for a felony or a misdemeanor), it will result in only one charge. Please go online and read SB2174, then email the senators and ask them to stand up to the Farm Bureau, and bring this bill to a vote.

More opinions to be had

Now Donald, don't get your little feelings hurt by what the Pope says. Other people can have opinions, too.

Redfish support

Thanks, Sun Herald for publishing the Letter to the Editor on holding our ground against SB 2311, allowing menhaden boats to keep redfish. I called the published phone number, 601-359-3770, to tell the committee chair to reject this bill and not let it out of committee. I encourage all residents and local fishermen to protect our redfish population and do same.
