Sound Off for Feb. 17
Man I wish they would hurry and elect someone so I don't have to look or listen to all this stuff every day all day long.
No bounds
Republicans have shown us clearly that the Constitution means nothing to them. Scalia isn't in his grave yet to roll over in. Republican partisanship has no bounds. They richly deserve to lose their majority, the White House, and our trust.
Limited input
I really like the Oaks on Lovers Lane. For safety reasons I understand it could be a problem. But I think it should be voted on only by the people who live past the tree if they want it removed.
National problem
The author of the comic strip "Pearls Before Swines" must be a reader of our local Sound Off column. In case you missed it, the comic on Feb. 15 showed four panels with one character speaking. 1st. "I don't mind Americans not being informed." 2nd. "But is it so hard to remember that if you like to drive at a reasonable speed....." 3rd. "STAY OUT OF THE #@*#%$# LEFT LANE!!" 4th. "This has been a public service announcement." Since this is a syndicated strip, left-lane-driving is a national problem.
Non-partisan president
The president of the United States should be like the effective CEO of a great and successful corporation. The president should be surrounded with men and women who know what the president doesn't know. The president should take their advice with an open mind and, with critical thinking, decide the best course of action on any issue. The best action should be what's best for the country, not what's best for the president's party. You should vote for such a man or woman.
Exhibit A
We all know our country is in deep trouble. We have a Congress and executive branch that refuse to do their jobs because of pettiness, partisanship, egos and just plain stubbornness. A perfect example is now that we are down a Supreme Court Justice. After only one day the battle lines are being drawn. We have a president who is determined to nominate another "liberal" judge and a senate that is just as determined to block it in hopes of a "conservative" appointment. The greatest problem here from the start is that "liberal" and "conservative" are even being mentioned. The candidates are "supposed" to be neutral when adjudicating the Constitution. Of course, this hasn't been the case in many decades, which has led the courts to "create law" rather than interpreting the Constitution. Again, a horrible disservice to the great people of our great nation. I have no idea what the answer is but I do know our country is falling rapidly.
