Sound Off for Jan. 9

Yes, how sad it is, in our country, to have to carry guns in our purses to feel safe. That article really upset me, as we live in the "greatest" country, and it has gotten this bad. The real problem is not the guns. It is the mental issues of the people with the guns. Please, please, do something about mental illness.

I wonder

I wonder how many of the refugee immigrants will be settled in the Hamptons, Long Island, Martha's Vineyard or Hilton Head.

Self-referential

Shocker! Obama referred to himself 76 times in his 33 minute speech on gun control the other day.

Times change

"We must find ways of returning far more of our dependent people to independence. We must find ways of returning them to a participating and productive role in the community." Does that sound like a conservative running for office today? No! It's JFK in a 1962 special message to Congress about public welfare. How times have changed.

WWJD?

Republicans and so-called evangelicals say they believe in Jesus. OK Jesus wants you to feed the hungry, heal the sick, help the poor. Exactly when are y'all going to do that?

Not crazy

Giving a woman a small pistol to carry in her purse, that you hope she will never have to use is not crazy. Is car or house insurance you hope you never have to use, crazy? I think not. Ask any woman who has been mugged, raped or assaulted, if she would have liked to have been able to defend herself against her attacker.

Backfire!

Today, Trump posted a vicious campaign ad against the Clintons. It was an attempt to define the Clintons. The American people have been litigating the Clintons since 1992. This ad doesn't move the needle on the Clintons. It does define Donald Trump.

'Reality check'

For the "Reality check" Sound Off in recent in Sun Herald talking about Trump not being able to do most of the stuff he claims: As a staunch independent who follows politics very closely, what if Trump gets into office and just uses one executive order after another the way Obama has over the last eight years without including the Democrats? I'm not necessarily a Trump supporter. I do agree with a lot of what he is saying. Just wish someone else was saying it.
