Sound Off for Dec. 16
If the beaches are really closed, why did I see people on them today?
Way to go, mayor!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Mayor Hewes!
A home run
Well, I'll be -- the MLB commissioner did the right thing in regards to the cheating and unapologetic Pete Rose.
Climate change foe
The only reason President Obama is so gung-ho about battling climate change is because it is the only imaginary foe he can say he is beating.
Hope for all
The Nativity scene is comprised of multiple ethnic backgrounds and simply represents hope for all mankind.
Please explain
Christmas is the celebration of Christ's birthday, so why don't non-Christians, atheists, humanists and other non-believers refuse to accept a paid holiday to mark this event?
Wrong place
Put the Nativity wherever you want on private property but not on public property. What don't you understand about what made this country great? Bad things happen when you let religion mix with government.
A lot of sickness?
I assume the ambulance service here receives a taxpayer stipend each and every time they turn the lights and sirens on? Since moving back, I have never seen as many ambulances in action as here in Harrison County. If they aren't receiving some kind of taxpayer payment for each usage, there are a lot of sick people here. Just sayin'.
Good move
Thank you, Mayor Hewes, for your stated intention to veto the decision to remove several live oak trees on 28th Avenue. This move obviously halted the destruction. My appreciation also to council members Holmes-Hines and Flowers for their stance on the vote. So many old and valuable trees have been lost for private interests -- so it is hoped that your action will save many trees in the future. Mr. Barber is to be commended for his withdrawal of the request to cut down the trees. Thank you, all.
What Rubio must do
If Marco Rubio really wants the GOP to win in 2016, he will accept he is third in the race, withdraw and throw his support to Ted Cruz. Rubio is a great candidate but only one can win the nomination, and Cruz is beating him. With their forces combined, they could easily defeat Trump (an absolute necessity!). The continued vote splitting among reasonable candidates will enable Trump to either win the nomination, or cry foul when he is denied the nomination through political maneuvering later on, justifying an independent bid that is sure to get Clinton elected.
