Sound Off for Nov. 29
I read the Sound Offs from "Let's get real," "We're not terrorized," and others with both disappointment and concern. As a 30-year defense veteran with 10 additional years in the intelligence arena, I'm disappointed they aren't aware of the facts regarding the Syrian refugees, and instead promote misguided "compassion" over prudence.
Pope has spoken
This week in Africa, the pope called the 'climate deniers' out. He singled out the American Republican leadership in particular. You climate deniers are utterly alone in your ignorance.
Righteousness is alive
Today, Sun Herald page 7A, the town of Louise, Miss., extended the welcome mat to Syrian refugees, to spite Phil Bryant and others. They said, "it's the right thing to do." Righteousness is alive and well in Mississippi -- in the town of Louise. Hallelujah!
Good news, bad news
Autumn is a wonderful time of year -- temperatures and humidity lower, leaves falling. The negatives are it is the start of basketball and deer hunting seasons.
Money for nothing
President Obama's goal at the UN Climate Change confab is to direct $3 billion, including $500 million in the near term, to the U.N. Green Climate Fund, which would supposedly help developing nations deal with climate change. I say no and I hope the Republican Congress will jerk those purse strings taut. This is merely a transfer of wealth with no possible, tangible result in altering the climate.
Some choice
Recent polls show two Republicans lead in their party. One mocks people with debilitating illness and the other believes the pyramids were built to store grain. Not much to choose from there.
Just the grannies
If Obama is correct about the grandmothers and 3-year-olds, then why not restrict the immigration to these people? No one under 70 allowed in.
Lay off the cats!
First Biloxi allowed ancient trees to be cut down. Now healthy cats are being killed. What next? Glad to see the FBI is going to investigate animal cruelty -- serial killers started out being cruel to animals. Maybe the FBI can come to Biloxi and find the person who tried to poison these innocent cats. Shame on you! Gandhi said, "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals treated."
