Sound Off for Nov. 24
Please publish when the next community meeting on Lake George will be held. I want to go.
Question for you
To all those who are, it appears, suddenly concerned about the plight of homeless veterans vs. Syrian refugees, I ask this: How many veterans are you taking in this winter, feeding at your home for Thanksgiving or giving money or warm clothes to? Is your concern genuine? Did you worry about vets prior to Nov. 13?
So much for . . .
Is that American values when you turn your back on the words that are engraved on the Statue of Liberty: "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free..." So much for the home of the brave.
Good walking weather
With cooler weather, been seeing more folks walking, running, bicycling on the concrete boardwalk. Good exercise for them and added use of the structure.
Fix the library
I love going to the library. It would be wonderful if the city could spruce up West Biloxi Library. Especially the entrance with new carpet, plants etc. It really needs new carpet, perhaps a few plants or pictures. The entrance is definitely not very inviting.
What?
What is the leadership of Cowan Road Baptist Church trying to prove by their awfully divisive sign I saw this Sunday? "God is Good. Allah is Satan." Have the powers that be there remembered anything about Sept. 11, 2001? Following that tragedy, there was an ecumenical service in Washington Cathedral, and the salutation was, "In the name of God, Jesus and Allah," or some variation of same. Allah is not Satan anymore than Satan is Jesus, and some spokesperson from that Baptist congregation has some serious explaining to do.
Disappointment
As a veteran, I am disappointed by the comments being made here in this newspaper forum by Americans who would turn their backs on Syrian refugees needing help when they are escaping the threat of war and ISIS. These refugees, mostly families of women, children and yes, even some males, who would be thoroughly checked out by our Homeland Security and Immigration Services of the government before being brought here, for most likely, temporary refuge. These people making these cowardly cries that call for turning our backs on people, many who are Christians, who desperately need our help. Any veteran who has served abroad as a serviceman or woman, should be appalled.
