Sound Off for Nov. 22

Be a role model

Since Obama is the person who wants to bring in all these refugees, let him donate his home for the first wave. Why is it most all liberals don't mind being liberal as long as it is not on them or their dime, just so it is with other people's time and money.

Cowboy up

OK, what happened to the home of the brave? All you politicians, stop being cowards about refugees. You are embarrassing.

Get with the times

Mississippi law says when there is a tie vote for a seat in the legislature, the tie is decided by lot. Really? How primitive and backward. I love this state, and I am proud of our accomplishments, such as the first successful lung transplant, performed at UMMC. However, this just seems backward to me. If there is a tie, then there should be a special tie-breaker election.

Need the best vetters

ISIS has said it will infiltrate the refugees. The House overwhelmingly, both Republicans and Democrats, approved a bill that would require our own security people, FBI, national intelligence and Homeland Security to check the refugees for a security threat. Who is currently verifying for us that there is no threat from ISIS among the refugees and why are these U.S. agencies not already our prime vetting process? And why in the world would President Obama promise to veto a bill that would require our own security agencies to vet these refugees?

Don't generalize

Americans need to realize ISIS is not representative of Islam. I have been to the region; Muslims are a peaceful and seriously religious people. They pray five times daily. When it is prayer time, activities stop and prayer begins. Just because there was a KKK doesn't mean all Southerners are racist. Educate yourself on the Muslim religion.

Last-minute Louies, take note

Please take in consideration when you are out holiday shopping that retail employees have families at home. When you stay in the store after closing they have to stay even later. So please be considerate and make your purchases before closing.

A continental divide

This country is more divided now than at any time in my life. This is not by coincidence nor accident. Do the words "divide and conquer" ring a bell?

A way to save money

We recently moved here from Huntsville Alabama. Garbage trucks in Huntsville run once a week, down from twice a week many years ago. Those who generate more trash weekly can pay for an additional trash can. Since moving here, we generate only enough trash for one can per week, which may be the case for a lot of families. Running the garbage trucks once a week would be great savings for the city.
