Sound Off for Nov. 2

Need competition

There are 13 legislative seats in Harrison County to be voted on this Tuesday. But, unfortunately, in only two races have opponents contesting the seat. The other 11 races have no opposition; 10 of them are held by Republicans. In Jackson County, there are 9 races, five of them with no opposition. Of those seats, 4 are held by Republicans. Without competitive races for our legislators, there will be no change in the direction of Mississippi.

Stay on top

OSU quarterback was arrested for DUI but charged with a misdemeanor. That way he is not suspended and can play in their games. What schools will do to stay No. 1.

Southern turkey

Can anybody direct me to a place where I can get a turkey (or two) deep-fried? The places where I have had in done in the past are not doing it any more.

State flag

If Germany included the swastika in its country flag to represent its national heritage and its period of near world dominance, would it be acceptable? I seriously doubt it. The swastika now represents the evils of the Nazi party and the Holocaust. The confederate battle emblem has come to represent oppression and should not be on the Mississippi flag.

Against the law

To all those "Hoddy Toddies" and "To The Toppers" out there pulling down the state flag, you are violating state law. I quote as follows: "The flag of the State of Mississippi and the flag of the United States shall be displayed in close proximity to the school buildings at all times ... . It shall be the duty of the board of trustees of the school district to provide for the flags and their display." What goes for the public schools of Mississippi, also apples to colleges and universities supported by state funding. Hopefully, we'll get to revisit this problem in the 2016 fall elections and settle once and for all this issue.

Real bosses

A lot of people are criticizing the moderators at CNBC's recent debate. I don't blame them. They were probably just doing what their bosses at the DNC told them to do.
