Proud American

If you missed the Air Force Tops in Blue show at the Coliseum this past weekend, you missed an excellent show performed by exceptionally talented airmen. And, you missed another special occurrence. People standing with their hands over their hearts and their mouths shut during the singing of our national anthem. Which, by the way, was sung the way it was written. Made you feel proud to be an American.

Free enterprise

Income inequality is not caused by rich, greedy, mean-spirited people in the top 10 percent of income earners. Their income is their reward for risking investment of capital in businesses that creates jobs that pay the middle class. The income taxes of the rich and the middle class then pay for welfare entitlements. I attribute income inequality to bad economic policy under Obama reducing middle-class income. Then there is our welfare system that seems to trap recipients at a very low income. Instead of tearing down the rich with taxes and hyper-regulation, our government needs to have economic policy that increases the income of the middle class and the poor. One best way for government to do this is to stop interfering with the businesses that create jobs and the tax revenue that sustains the government.

Show respect

I would like to give a shout out to all of those who have been cleaning the local graveyards. Thank you! While some of our departed souls have no remaining family to look after their grave sites, others do have family in the local area but for whatever reason, neglect to weed the grass much less leave a flower on a special occasion. If it hurts too much to visit or you are physically unable to remove the weeds, please let someone know, and I'll bet they will do it for you. When my family cleans our loved ones' grave sites, we also clean the surrounding grave sites that are visibly unkempt. A well-kept graveyard is not only nice to visit but shows respect for our loved ones who have gone on before us.

Not paying attention

To the person who evidently did not watch the Democratic debate and said there were not questions about foreign policy. There were numerous questions about foreign policy, and the answers were great. Republicans want to cut veterans' benefits, Social Security and Medicare to give the wealthy another tax cut. Democrats will not cut any of those. In fact, they will expand veterans' health care and Social Security, and overhaul the tax code that is unfair to the middle class. They will end millionaires paying Social Security only on the first $118,000. They pay no more for the remainder of the year. And to pay for college and "freebies," if you make more than $250,000 a year your taxes will go up.
