Ward 2 election

We residents in Ward 2 congratulate Bryan Caldwell on his being elected as our representative on the City Council. We are hoping he will serve as our elected official, rather a politician doing the bidding of the mayor.

World Cup

Despite a nonsensical call, the United States men’s soccer team still knocked Bosnia and Herzegovina out of the World Cup and earned a date with Belgium. I can’t wait.

Birthright citizenship

As long as Flo Balogun keeps scoring goals for our national soccer team, you’ll never hear me say a negative word about birthright citizenship. Kudos to the airline that wouldn’t let his pregnant mother get on the plane.

Democrats

No matter the goal or the ideology, the ‘Big Tent’ Democratic Party is fractured. Some are on the run and some are on the bandwagon, although the latter are quiet until the results are tallied. There’s obviously nothing but hate for Trump voters. This is something all Democrats have in common. The party hides an incompetent presidency for 4 years almost, and then the answer is Kamala Harris?

Not enough

Trump approved $11 million to Mississippi for damages from a recent tornado. That’s a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of the ballroom, reflecting pool and his recent celebrations. But we should be grateful for crumbs, right? Especially since it’s our taxpayer money.

National diversity

Our history should temper all this concern about illegal immigration. We are a nation of immigrants who were welcomed by the Statue of Liberty. Let’s not throw out the baby with the bathwater. By all means, get the worst of the worst and secure the border, but the deportees should not include violators with traffic tickets, minor infractions, and particularly DACA children. A clear example of us as a welcoming, diverse nation is the soccer team we’re all rooting for. The USMNT is a smorgasbord of nationalities.

History repeats

“Noblesse oblige” is a term most of our current crop of oligarchs have forgotten about. The WWII generation populated our government with wealthy people more interested in the public good than lining their pockets like the billion-plus that Trump is doing with crypto, his coins, gold sneakers, gold watches, etc.
